J David Horwhat, MD

Dr. Horwhat is a Pennsylvania native who returned to practice in his home state after a 21-year career as an active duty military medical officer. Dr. Horwhat earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Cornell University in 1988 and his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Temple University in 1992. Dr. Horwhat completed his Internal Medicine training at Madigan Army Medical Center, Gastroenterology Fellowship at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship from Duke University Medical Center.

He has authored or co-authored over 70 publications, book chapters and abstracts and has lectured on numerous areas of advanced endoscopy. During fellowship training, Dr. Horwhat was involved with the development and clinical use of endoscopic spray cryotherapy along with Regional Gi’s Dr. Mark Johnston at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Horwhat continues to work with cryotherapy and other ablative treatments in Barrett’s esophagus, palliation of esophageal cancer and treatment of radiation proctitis and is recognized as a national expert in this area of gastroenterology.

Dr. Horwhat’s practice focuses on Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and Fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Paul Allegretti, DO

Dr. Allegretti earned his D.O. degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine Residency and GI Fellowship at Lankenau Medical Center.

He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and has been practicing gastroenterology in Lancaster since 2007. He serves as Director for the annual GI Symposium hosted by Regional Gi physicians with the goal of partnering with, and educating, primary care physicians in Lancaster County. He is Vice President of the Pennsylvania Coalition for Independent Practice Physicians.

His areas of interest include Fecal Microbiota Transplantation, colon cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and general gastroenterology.

Dr. Allegretti is the author of the first protocol for Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) in Lancaster County and the first to treat patients with this procedure. He has published several articles and has presented research at several ACG National Meetings.

Tareq Yasin, MD

Born and raised in Jerusalem, Dr. Tareq Yasin moved to the United States in 1999 to attend Hiram College in Ohio, graduating with a degree in biology in 2003.

Dr. Yasin earned his medical degree from Penn State University College of Medicine in 2007 and completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Gastroenterology / Hepatology Fellowship at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. During his senior year Dr. Yasin served as Chief Fellow of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Yasin joined Carlisle Digestive Disease Associates in July 2013. He is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He enjoys spending time with and traveling with his wife and son.


Atul Bhardwaj, MD

Dr. Atul Bhardwaj graduated from medical school in 1999. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Pinnacle Health Hospitals and his Gastroenterology Fellowship at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

Dr. Bhardwaj joined Carlisle Digestive Disease Associates in July 2014. Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, Dr. Bhardwaj is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).  He has been published in many peer-reviewed journals and his work has been presented at various national and international conferences.

Robert Levy, DO

Dr. Robert Levy spent his early years in the suburbs of Philadelphia. He attended college at the University of Delaware and obtained his medical degree at the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City. He completed both his Internal Medicine Residency and his Gastroenterology Fellowship at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.

Dr. Levy joined Carlisle Digestive Disease Associates in 2000. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Hepatology. He enjoys spending time with family and friends at the Jersey shore.


David Neiblum, MD

A Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and American Gastroenterological Association, Dr. Neiblum attended Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia after graduating cum laude from Union College in Schenectady, NY. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at The Medical College of Pennsylvania, and subsequently was Assistant Professor of Medicine at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, where he taught gastroenterology to fellows and residents. He joined West Chester Gastrointestinal Group in 2000.

Dr. Neiblum has published a number of scientific articles and has a strong interest in colon cancer screening, on which he has lectured numerous times. He was recently named a “Top Doc” in Philadelphia Magazine, as well as Main Line Today and Suburban Life magazines. Dr. Neiblum is committed to providing the highest quality and empathetic care to his patients. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters, and traveling in search of sights and sushi.


David Bobman, MD

Dr. Bobman joined West Chester Gastrointestinal Group in 2005 after fourteen years in gastrointestinal practice at Riddle Memorial, Taylor, and Crozer-Chester Hospitals. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University Medical School. Dr. Bobman completed residency training in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Cooper Hospital/UMDNJ. He is Board Certified in gastroenterology and he was recently named a “Top Doc” by both Philadelphia magazine and Main Line Today magazine. Dr. Bobman is active on the board of the Chester County Medical Society, and is currently serving as Chief of Staff at Penn/Chester County Hospital.


Alex Kuryan, MD

Dr. Kuryan is the Chief of Gastroenterology and Director of Endoscopy at The Chester County Hospital. A native of Philadelphia, Dr. Kuryan joined West Chester Gastrointestinal Group in 2005. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Boston University and received his medical degree from MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine (now Drexel University College of Medicine).

Dr. Kuryan completed his residency in internal medicine as well as his fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Temple University Hospital. He was recently named a “Top Doc” by both Philadelphia magazine and Main Line Today magazine. Dr. Kuryan is dedicated to local and international medical mission service. He travels overseas to provide medical care to underserved and vulnerable people in areas where health care is limited and difficult to obtain.

Reina Bender, MD

A native of Chester County, Dr. Bender joined the West Chester Gastrointestinal Group in 2007 after completing her gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. While in Boston, she completed a program in Clinical Effectiveness at the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Bender has received numerous academic, research and teaching awards and has published and presented scientific papers at several national meetings. She has been named a Top Doc in both Main Line Magazine and Philadelphia Magazine on several occasions.
Dr. Bender has privileges at Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital and sees patients in the West Chester and Exton US Digestive Health Offices. She performs numerous endoscopic procedures including endoscopies (EGD), colonoscopies and hemorrhoid banding.

In her spare time, Dr. Bender enjoys spending time with her family, running, traveling, and cheering for all Philadelphia sports teams.

Carrie Miller-Baichi, MD

Dr. Miller Baichi was originally born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia. She completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania graduating Magna Cum Laude. She then attended medical school at New York University School of Medicine. She completed Internal Medicine residency training at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of Buffalo. After completing her training, she joined the West Chester Division of USDH in 2007. Dr Miller Baichi practices general gastroenterology and has a special interest in women’s digestive health. Outside of work she loves spending time with her four children. 


Matthew Baichi, MD

Dr. Baichi was originally born and raised in Syracuse, New York. He completed his bachelor’s degree at nearby Colgate University and a master’s degree at Roswell Park Cancer institute in Buffalo. He then attended medical school at the State University of New York Health Science Center in Syracuse.  He completed medical residency training at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and then returned to upstate New York for his gastroenterology fellowship training at the University of Rochester. After completing formal training, he and his wife (Dr Carrie Miller) both joined the West Chester Division of USDH in 2007. Both have happily worked here ever since. Dr. Baichi practices general gastroenterology and has a special interest in biliary endoscopy. Dr. Baichi has four school age children.  His hobbies include fishing and gardening.


Albert Hahm, MD

Dr. Albert Hahm was born and raised in the Philadelphia area, and joined West Chester GI in 2013. He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College after graduating magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Hahm went on to complete his internal medicine residency at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed his fellowship training in gastroenterology and hepatology at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey where he contributed to community outreach projects. Dr. Hahm has published and presented multiple abstracts in medical journals and has an interest in all clinical aspects of gastroenterology with a focus on patient advocacy and compassionate care. Dr. Hahm enjoys traveling, eating great food and spending time with his wife and two daughters.


Eva Sum, MD

Dr. Sum joined West Chester Gastrointestinal Group in 2015 after practicing in Chester County for 7 years. She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Sum completed residency training in internal medicine and a fellowshipin gastroenterology and hepatology at Temple University Hospital. She is board certified in gastroenterology and was recently named a “Top Doc” by Main Line Today Magazine. Dr. Sum’s clinical interests include women’s gastrointestinal health, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD),inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis), hepatitis, and colon cancer screening. She is fluent in Mandarin and is married with two young children. She enjoys running, traveling, and spending time with her family. Besma Samdani, MD
